the region. During the winter the oil mills are working day and
night and farmers taking care of the green and yellow gold. At
the beginning of March spring covers the region powerful. After
heavy-rainfall in winter the bald mountains are a sea of flowers,

Olives and olives and olives
The evergreen tree is the backbone of the existence and the
shaping plant of the region. When you go from Palekastro to
Zakros this fact will be demonstrated very impressive. Where
ever you look, up to the slopes, into the ravines, oil trees,
nothing but oil trees. The dry and meager east is a guarantee
for first class olive oil and the products of the
Agricultural Cooperative of Sitia are No. 1 in the world!

Hiking
In the spring and autumn the east of Crete around Palekastro
is a hiking district of first quality. Temperatures are pleasant
and there's steady weather in the mountains around Chandras.
Hiking Terre pr days almost alone is a rare experience hard
to find in Europe these days. The air is fulfilled with humming
bees, in the sky there are numerous rare grab birds. No one
disturbs the peace and the impressiveness of the mountain world.
Like the south coast there are numerous ravines leading to the
coast offering very impressive and lonely walks. Gorges are
mostly far away from settlements and are retreat areas of rare
plants and animals.
- Never tear plants, respect the atmosphere and the silence.
Always take plentifully water on your way!
- Never walk alone through these ravines! If something goes
wrong it may take a long time until someone comes along. Have
a first aid kit with you, don't forget your cellphone.
Biking
For two years Bikers discover the east of Crete. Meanwhile
there is a multiplicity of outstanding trails which are partially
already described and signposted. Best season: At the end
of March to the end of of May and from the middle of Septembers
to the middle of November.
Antiquities
The entire region is full surprises, both over and under the
soil. New finds are made each and every year. This circumstance
is holding back the development of the tourism infrastructure
and ensures that the region will keep its intact flora and fauna.
