Isolation and South Seas beaches - Xerokambos
Xerokambos doesn't belong to the municipality Itanos but to Lefkis. But nevertheless this beautiful place is not to remain unmentioned here. Going to Xerokambos is easy, there are tow different roads:

1. From Palekastro over Sitia moving southwards. On the motorway to Ierapetra turn briefly behind Episkopi to the left and follow the sign-posting to Ziros. From there a new tar route that reminds of alpine fitting races leads to Xerokambos.

2. Briefly behind the local end of Zakros follow the new sign that refers to the way to Xerokambos. Now there are 9 kilometres on a brand new tar road into the south, past at abyss-deep ravines and through endless and lonely Olive plantations. A genuine adventure. [35 minutes to drive from Palekastro]

Lonely beaches at the "end of the world"

Isolation
In former times Xerokambos was a summer settlement of the inhabitants of Ziros and Chandras. Gradually the small and scattered place awakes from its sleeping beauty. During the past 10 years building activity increased and each year there are a number of new roads. Meanwhile there are a handful of nice flats and some very good taverns. Everything waits for the big run if Sitia opens the new international airport. Lovely place: Villa Petrino

Crystal waters and sandy beaches

Ideally for families
While in April the water still is cold in the north and even body builders are in trouble jumping into ''the pond'' with 17 degrees or less, down here water is somewhat warmer. The difference is up to 3 degrees both in summer and winter. The flat coast warms fast, families with children will appreciate. In the summer Xerokambos becomes however frequently a furnace. If the wind falls asleep the fine sandy beaches becomes a glowing pan.

Nature paradise
At the northern end of the beaches there is an enormous lagoon and in several years it's full of live even in summer. During spring and autumn numerous migratory birds are taking a rest.
