Chiona - the village beach
Chiona is the most closest beach to Palekastro. From the village
square it takes some 20 minutes to walk. In the hot summer this
is recommendable however only on the early morning. If the heat
comes and breeds over the road to the beach there is no fun to
walk anymore...
While most of the locals got to Chiona nude
bathing is strictly undesirable! I recommend nudists to walk
through the goat gate at the east end of Chiona bay, walk along
the coast line and don't forget to close the goats gate! Below
the stony way you'll find small hidden sand and gravel bays
with crystal clear waters. A dream!

Clean and maintained
The bay of Chiona was distinguished several times with the "blue
flag" of the European Union for clean water and maintained
beach. Popular with both tourists and locals the fine sandy beach
drops flat in the water and the bay is surrounded by three seafood
taverns. I prefer the "last" tavern which stands on
a small cliff at the outermost northern edge. Here one can sit
with the table directly on the small mole and also fall (I experienced
that once) with the chair into the sea after plentifully Raki
benefit.. Great for families
Just because the beach drops flat onto the water this is a nice
place for families. If the small monsters are screaming for
ice cream the way to the next tavern is pretty short. In addition
here the Meltemi blows not a strong as for example at Kouremenos
, the sea remains quite calm also with a strong breeze.

Sunrise - lagoon at
Chiona |
Birds paradise
Chiona is wonderful also in the spring. The lagoon behind the
beach, which becomes dry at the beginning of June is a paradise
for migratory birds which make rest here. I actually observed
flamingos, which inserted a break on their way to the Greek mainland.
Try once to come here at sunrise, you'll be part of a fantastic
show.
